It’s Layered with History.
Some have called New Castle the most
historic town in America. One of the
oldest, founded in 1651, it’s also one of
the few that has belonged to four
countries: Netherlands, Sweden, Britain
and the U.S. The New Castle Court
House was the meeting place for the
assembly that, on June 15, 1776,
separated Delaware from Pennsylvania
and the British Crown. This act predates
the Declaration of Independence and
marks Delaware as the first state to join
what would become the United States.
From famous people who slept here to
famous decisions made here, plus
streets and homes that have changed
little for hundreds of years, it’s a
must-visit for anyone who cares about
history.
